Peshawar : Pakistan’s military has killed 47 militants in a two-day operation in Balochistan, targeting separatist and extremist groups along the Afghan border.

Balochistan: A Conflict-Prone Region

Balochistan is a restive province bordering Afghanistan and home to several militant groups, including the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF). These groups seek independence from Pakistan and have been responsible for numerous attacks over the years.

The Recent Military Operation

The Pakistan Army launched an extensive anti-terror campaign earlier this week in the Sambasa area of Sops district. On August 7 and 8, security forces killed 33 militants attempting to cross into Pakistan illegally.

Another intense gunfight erupted along the Sambasa border and continued until early yesterday morning, resulting in the deaths of 14 more militants.

TTP’s Role in the Conflict

The Pakistani Taliban (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, TTP) once had a ceasefire agreement with Islamabad, but it collapsed in 2022. Since then, terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have sharply increased, with security forces frequently engaging in counter-terror operations.
