Chennai, Aug:
The Tamil Nadu Government has announced that pattas will be issued for 39,428 land parcels falling under the “Natham” classification in 18 districts across municipal and municipal corporation areas, under the Land Tax Scheme.

In Tamil Nadu, residential plots allocated for housing in villages are classified as “Natham” by the Revenue Department. For the past two decades, pattas for such lands in rural areas have been issued under the Land Tax Scheme after converting them into “Ryotwari House Sites.”

However, in urban areas, pattas could only be given under the Urban Land Tax Scheme. Due to the absence of government approval for this process, the work had remained pending for years.

According to the recent order from the Revenue Department, lands recorded in the ‘A’ register as “Grama Natham” or “House Site” and marked in the urban land records as “Government Poramboke – Natham” can now be regularized under the Urban Land Tax Scheme, granting ownership pattas to eligible residents.

As per the directive:

  • In districts such as Chengalpattu, Karur, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvarur, Coimbatore, Madurai, Theni, Tenkasi, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Vellore, Erode, and Salem, a total of 22,076 survey numbers will be processed for patta issuance with approval from the respective Tahsildars.
  • In Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Tiruchirappalli districts, 17,352 survey numbers will be reclassified as “Ryotwari House Sites” before pattas are issued.

District Collectors will issue detailed circulars to Special Tahsildars on the step-by-step procedures to be followed for implementing the scheme.
